What is the definition of Art? Well, there is no concrete definition for the term – art. We can see different people giving their own version of definition for the word – art. In this article, we will try to provide the definition and explanation for that term. One of the most accepted definitions of art is it is a process of deliberately arranging different elements (colours, line, objects, etc.) so that it appeals the emotions and senses of the human being. Art encompasses so many forms such as paintings, sculpture, literature, and music.

Another definition is art is a product or activity that specifically done for aesthetic or communication purpose.  For example, art for aesthetic purpose includes stuff like wall decoration, etc. On another hand, an example of communication art includes banner, posters, etc. Through art, the culture of the country or region can be depicted. Many communities have transmitted their culture to other regions through the form of art. The definition for the word art has changed from time to time, and still the definition is subjective. The fact is that each opinion and perspective the art does not fail to stir controversy.

Art has become a part of every culture since from the primitive days. The primitive humankind carved images of the animals and human beings on the stones for communication. There are many rock carvings, which portrays the early human activities like hunting, rituals, etc. In earlier days, when there are no paper and pen, human beings used stone carve art for communication purpose. It is said that a picture speaks thousand words. This is the reason why ancient humans relied on the art for communication and express of ideas.

Mural painting is one of the popular forms of artwork practised by the ancient human’s, who are more advanced than the primitive people. Mural painting used various colours, which were extracted from the natural plants and herbs.

Today, the art has taken a new dimension with the digital technology. Digital technology helps the artists to create paintings and other works with the help of a computer. Traditional media artwork requires paint, paper and other tools. Using all these tools can cause lots of mess, which can be avoided with the digital technology. The art created with digital media (computer, mouse, keyboard) can be scaled to any size without loss in the quality. A single art can be easily duplicated as many times.

However, there are still many people, who prefer the traditional style of art as they look more lively than the contemporary art. For example, the art piece created with digital technology, when looking them at a closer distance. On the other hand, the traditional artwork looks so lively and realistic in every inch. This is the reason why mural paintings and sculpture of ancient days still amazes the people.

There is a lot of questions whether digital art can be classified as a distinct art form. Usually, a type of art is classified as distinct when it has a unique style. However, digital art does not have any distinct form. It sometimes used to replicate the traditional style art and sometimes used to replicate contemporary. To tell in simple words, the digital media is just a tool like paint and brush.

Photography is one of the popular art form, which was actually seen as a competitor to the traditional portrait painting. Today, the photography helps the painters in many ways. Nowadays, photography is no more seen as a competition to the painting. The photography has evolved into a separate media, which offers plenty of advantages as well drawbacks.

20th century experienced a great transformation in the art. This is was the time, when contemporary artists broke the notion about the art. 20th-century artist used the art to express their inner feeling rather than portraying the outer beauty such as natural sceneries, human anatomy, portrait, etc.

We can say that art is a form of expression. A painter uses his art to replicate the scenes from the real world or from his inner mind. Similarly, musician composes tunes, and sculpture sculpts the rock to express what he loves. No matter how the days pass and technology evolves, there is no death for the art. It will be part of the human culture till the earth revolves.
